Heineken Regatta 2011

Day 1 of the 2011 Heineken Regatta. The fact that I am able to keep up with the bonaire boys is really good :D. Taty Frans dominated the course the whole day.I was in second 3 times and third 1 time. The last race was extreme!I was with 9.5 on Formula and the wind started to blow over 20 knots. Boy what was I powered up. Thanks to the wonderfull controle the KA Koncept gives me, I was able to get in second and not far away from first place. (which is really hard!) Tomorrow is the last day, let's see how it goes :)   Heineken Regatta 2011.Day two!A whole bunch of rain! Strong winds. What more can you ask for?? :DWe were about to start when we heard lightning struck behind us.You don't want to get struck by lightning do you? After the storm dark clouds kept us from seeing the sun.We decided to race anyway with about 5 knots. The funboard class was able to start and finish. But when the formula class started the wind dropped even more.Everyone gived up and went back to shore.I was the only one that got up to the mark and back.It took so loooong! I was back after 2 hours. There was 0 knots the whole way back. I also want to thank my sponsors because without their help this is all... impossible. North American Championships 2011

October 21st. What a day what a day! As an island boy i'm not used to racing in cold weather. It was about 61F. I raced 4 races today, I was: 2nd, 2nd, 1st and 2nd. The wind was really low. I kept pumping almost my whole race. I lost two 1st places because the 2nd bouy was to far downwind. The one that was behind me saw my mistake and jibed wide around the first mark to be able to aproach the second one with speed. Tomorrow I am focussed to move up to 1st place, now I know what I did wrong this is why tomorrow will be better, I hope. I'll keep you posted. Aloha! Jean Patrick   October 22nd. No wind at all! We raced 6 heats today which two of them counted. I finished: 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st. Four of these races did not count because more then 50% wasn't plaining. If these races would have count then I would be in 1st position now instead of being tied in 1st place. I used my 9.5 KA Koncept 2011 and my 135 liter Patrik board, pretty big.. Tomorrow I plan on securing my first position, it's also the last day of the event. Let's hope for some good wind. I'll keep you posted. Hangloose, Jean Patrick   October 23rd. Last day of the North American Championships 2011. Well, what can I say? I hate seaweed? In the morning there was no wind at all. I was in first position. And suddenly the wind just blew over 15 to 17 knots. I finished 1st, 2nd and 2nd. I finished second these two times because of seaweed. In my race I was in a good first position, everything was going perfect. But at one moment I felt like I was losing speed. So I looked down to my fin and saw this bush of seaweed around it. I tried jumping to get it of but sadly it didn't. This happened two times in a row. I lost my first position becaue of seaweed. Doesn't it sound crazy? I ended up on 2nd place just a few points behind 1st place. I want to thank my sponsors for supporting me with my sport. Because of them this is all possible for me. KA Sails, Patrik Diethelm, MB Fins, Chinook, ABC Marine, Florida Express, DHL, Insel Air and Atrium Fitness. Thank you!

IFCA 2011 Junior World Champion Curacao

Day 6 Final race day Today the Curacao Challenge will end with 3 new 2011 IFCA World Champions. In the morning it looked like the wind was going to pick up but after a huge rain shower with gusts of 25 knots, the wind was gone. During the shower the organisation lowered the posponed flag. That means that the first race will start in 20 minutes. Everybody ran to their gear and hit the waters. When everybody was on the water the wind suddenly dropped to 0/5 knots. To me it was clear that the wind was not going to come back. It's not the first time that after a rain shower the wind is totally gone. The Curacao Challenge ended like this, one day well, night of tough races. It was like a sudden death. In the first heat I came in second behind Amado Vrieswijk. And in the second heat which was the winners final I came in as first followed by Justin Denel and Amado Vrieswijk. This was good enough for me to be 2011 IFCA Junior World Champion. {qtube vid:=w7Pp53eYZMk w:=450 h:=329 ap:= 1 hd:=1 dc:=1 rel:=0} My mom recorded my winning heat but did not make any pictures sadly. I will edit the videos and upload it to youtube. From there I will put it on my website as soon as possible. If you are looking for more information about how the event ended visit: www.curacaochallenge.com   Hangloose, J. Patrick     Day 5 Race day Today was great! The wind finally came back and gave us the chance to race one elimination. My first heat did not go as planned. I came in second after Amado Vrieswijk. Becouse I did not have any power in my sail. After I did some adjustments I got the power that I needed and came in first in the winners final. Currently I'm in first place followed bij Jules Denel. The competition is not over yet. Tomorrow there's going to be good wind and anything can happen.   Hangloose, J. Patrick Day 4 Race day We finally had a race today at the end of the day. The competitors were on hold the whole morning and in the afternoon the race commitee decited to hold a funrace. They even let 85 competitors start together. Tomorrow I expect that we are going to windsurf some eliminations. There are some pictures on the Curacao Challenge website witch is www.curacaochallenge.com Keep looking at my website for the latest reports. Hangloose, J. Patrick       Day 3 Race day Unfortunatly again there was not enough wind for there to be any races. The competitors were on stand by the whole day. Tomorrow, saturday and sunday I expect enough wind so we can race. There are pictures and more information on www.facebook.com/curacaochallenge Day 2: Race day Unfortunatly there was not enough wind today. Normally there's always wind around this time of the year on Curacao. After an long day of sitting and waiting for wind, the races were cancelled. The forecast for the week seems weak but anythings possible. Hangloose, J. Patrick Day 1: Registration day Things are heating up!   Today is registration day for all the competitors down at Sint Joris bay. It's from 10 am till 5 pm. Afterwards the organisation is holding a openings party with special act and a camp fire. Tomorrow skippers meeting at 10 am and first possible start at 11 am. I'm in the best shape as I can be so I expect good results. Tomorrow I will put the results on my website.   Hangloose, J. Patrick

North American Champion ship 2010

North American Championship's 2010 The morning of 20 October, which was on a wednesday, my team and I travelled to Miami for the North American Championship's. I trained very hard for this event and I was in good shape to kick some butt.   When I finally arrived at the Miami International Airport (MIA), I had to drag my gear all the wait out the door. Then I sat there 2 hours long waiting for my dad to arrive with the “pick up”. When he finally came, I saw that I was going to drive in a mini van. So it took a lot to get all the windsurf gear on the car and in it. I had 4 board's in the car and a huge and heavy windsurfgear bag on the car.   On our way to the hotel we stopped at a restaurant to refill our tummy's. All the times we visited Miami before we always ended eating at that typical restaurant. Afterwards we jumped back in the car and headed to the hotel. Alex Morales, a man who did a lot to organize the event got us a special price for a hotel. It was a very nice hotel, the room's were big enough for the gear to fit in it, and still have enough room to walk around and for the suitcases. We rested for a while and then we hit the mall! A vacation in Miami is nothing without shopping right?? We did not stay long because I was tired and I needed some rest.   October 21,   Today there were no races planned so, me and my family went to the mall again. We were there the whole day wasting good money. At the end of the day we wen't to the beach were the races would be heald to check out what is what. The beach was very nice and so was the water and wind. I saw Alex for the first time in real life. It was a pleasure to meet him and look forward seeing hi more in other international competitions. After that we went back to the mall.. My mom and sister wanted to go shopping again. After the mall we headed back to the hotel. The drive was so beautiful, we passed thru the city. Sky-line I believe? So many lights, I didn't know where to look. That night I slept like a baby. Which is good because I had to compete in the morning.     October 22,   Today was the first official day of the event. I arrived early in the morning with Ethan Westera and his dad from aruba following us in the car. I checked the wind how it was and the waves. Because it can be blowing light but you have to have control in the waves. So going big wasn't a good idea. I decided to rig up my 7.5 Ka 2007 sail and go out with my 110 AHD Slalom board.   As I was rigging up my sail I saw Micah Buzianis ride up in his van. I was almost drewling, you could feel the pro-ness. As he opend the back of his car the only thing you saw was new gear. I was so jealous. Afterwards I registered for the race, and I was ready! The wind was good enough a steady 16 knots. My races were all good! I had a few tight races with the guy from Puerto Rico, he was really fast. After all the races I derigged all of my equipment and put everything in it's bag. I left my gear on the beach with Beth Winkler. They were sleeping there in their caravan. It was really great to see her again. The junior fleet and the women fleet started together. And everythime at the start Beth was almost in my butt. She may be old but she goes fast! After the races we went to the mall again. And went to bed early for the next day of races.   October 23   I woke up with the expectations that it was going to be a windy day today! Everybody on the beach was talking about it yesterday. I jumped out of my bed because I heard the wind howling. I looked out the window and it was so windy, the palm three's were dancing. I had breakfast and said to myself, today is going to be a good day.     When I arrived at the event site, the wind was even stronger! I was jumping of excitement. Because the last months there was no wind, not enough for slalom. That's why I had to get used to the wind, water and waves at first. I had a quick and sick session with the Ihangloose boys. The joy of finally having a lot of power in my sail boost me up to go even faster. Thanks to a tip from Micah Buzianis I surfed a lot faster, and had more control.   We had a fast skippers meeting in the morning and afterwards were ready to rock and roll. The Ihangloose boys and me were all set to kick some butt! I performed really good, I almost won all of my races. I was neck in neck with Ethan Westera from Aruba. We really showed them that KA sails can go fast. Too bad I did not have the 2011 sails, I would of have a lot more speed. At the end of the day I was so tired! Even the mall didn't wake me up. So we wen't to the mall just for my sister and mom, after that we went to the hotel, because I was finished for the day. When I arrived at the hotel, I jumped on my bed and fell asleep. Dreaming of my ways to win tomorrow.   October 24   Today was the last racing day, I was very focussed in winning my races. We arrived at the beach and I was fully into winning all of my races, untill my mother yelled “Breakfast!” I was so mad at her for doing that, although I ran to her screaming “Yay yay!”. Breakfast was delicious! Now it was time to focus on my races again. It was light wind so I put on my big stuff. With big I mean 2007 KA Sail 7.5 And 2009 AHD Slalom board. I went on the water and I was full powered! The sail might be old but It goes fast like hell! I got all of my races good, and had no wipe-outs. At the end of the day the racing commitee held the awards ceremony. I was crowned North American Champion 2010 (under 18). With my team mate on third place.   Competing in Miami was very cool, I had a lot of fun and gained more experience. I would love to come race again in Miami it was great! The waves were out of control and on my island we don't have that very often. It was great windsurfing in Miami and I am defenitly looking forward to it next year.   I thank all of my sponsors! Ka Sails, Insel Air, ABC Marine, Windsurfdeal They are the best, and because of them I got this opportunity.   Hangloose, CUR-191
